The total of all open futures contracts on PAPER. Rising — new money is entering the market; falling — positions are being closed. A sharp jump often precedes a strong move or a squeeze.
A sharp inflow of OI often precedes a strong move; overheating (too much leverage) raises the risk of cascading liquidations; OI migrating between exchanges shows where the interest is concentrating.
