Open interest in INDEX — how much money sits in open futures positions on INDEX and how it flows between exchanges. OI rising together with price means inflow; rising against price is a risk of reversal. The data ticks in real time across every exchange.
The total of all open futures contracts on INDEX. Rising — new money is entering the market; falling — positions are being closed. A sharp jump often precedes a strong move or a squeeze.
OI diverging from price signals a possible reversal; overheating (too much leverage) raises the risk of cascading liquidations. OI migrating between exchanges shows where the interest is concentrating.
