How we calculate HyperLiquid rates

HyperLiquid pays funding every hour. We convert it to an 8-hour period, as on large exchanges, so the rates are comparable. The median is taken over the other exchanges where the same coin trades.

HyperLiquid funding rate: questions and answers

Funding on HyperLiquid is an hourly payment between longs and shorts on a perpetual contract. A positive rate means longs pay shorts, a negative one means the opposite. The base part of the rate is 0.01% per 8 hours (0.00125% per hour); the rest is the premium — how far the contract trades above or below the asset price. The payment goes between traders; the exchange takes nothing from it.

How often does HyperLiquid pay funding?

Every hour, 24 times a day. The computed rate is divided by eight and paid one eighth per hour. Most other exchanges pay every 8 hours, so for comparison the HyperLiquid rate is converted to the same period: the table has a “Per 8 hours” switch.

How is the funding rate calculated on HyperLiquid?

The rate has a base part — 0.01% per 8 hours, the same as on large centralized exchanges — and a premium. The premium shows how far the contract price is above or below the asset price: it is sampled every 5 seconds and averaged over the hour. Contract above the asset price — the rate rises; below — it falls.

Who gets the funding money on HyperLiquid?

Traders: longs or shorts pay, depending on the sign of the rate. The exchange takes no fee on funding. The payment is the rate times your position size in dollars at the asset price at the moment of settlement.

Is there a cap on the HyperLiquid funding rate?

Yes, 4% per hour. That is much higher than on centralized exchanges, so in sharp moves the HyperLiquid rate can drift far from the market — such gaps show up in the “Difference” column.

How is HyperLiquid funding different from Binance and Bybit?

The interval (one hour against eight hours) and how the premium is measured: HyperLiquid takes the asset price from an oracle built on several exchanges’ prices and averages it over the hour. So HyperLiquid and Binance rates can diverge noticeably — funding divergence and cross-exchange funding arbitrage live on that gap.

How do I get an alert when the HyperLiquid funding rate rises?

In the QuickRadar builder pick the “Funding rate” condition, the HyperLiquid exchange, a coin and a threshold — the message arrives in Telegram as soon as the rate crosses it.
