Gate funding rates today

Gate pays funding every 8 hours by default, and for some coins more often. We convert the rates to one interval and compare them with other exchanges — so you can see where Gate funding sits above or below the market.

Funding on Gate is a periodic payment between longs and shorts on a perpetual contract; by default it settles at 00:00, 08:00 and 16:00 UTC. A positive rate means longs pay shorts, a negative one means the opposite. Whoever holds the position at the moment of settlement pays or receives. The base part of the rate is 0.01% per 8 hours; the rest is the premium — how far the contract trades above or below the index price. The payment goes between traders; Gate takes no fee from it.

Gate funding rate: questions and answers

How often does Gate pay funding?

By default every 8 hours: at 00:00, 08:00 and 16:00 UTC. Some contracts settle more often — every 4 hours (at 00:00, 04:00, 08:00, 12:00, 16:00 and 20:00 UTC), and every hour when the rate hits its limit. That is why rates are converted to one period for comparison: the table has “Per 8 hours”, “Per day” and “Annualized” switches.

How is the funding rate calculated on Gate?

The rate has an interest part — 0.03% per day, i.e. 0.01% per 8 hours — and a premium. The premium shows how far the contract price is above or below the index price; the exchange recalculates it every minute and averages it over the interval, with later minutes weighted more. While the premium stays within 0.05% of the interest part, the rate equals the interest part; beyond that, the rate follows the premium. Contract above the index — the rate rises; below — it falls.

Who gets the funding money on Gate?

Traders: longs or shorts pay, depending on the sign of the rate. Gate takes no fee on funding. The payment is the rate times the position value at the mark price, counted on the positions open at the moment of settlement.

Is there a cap on the Gate funding rate?

Yes, every contract has its own upper and lower limit. In high volatility Gate may change them, and when the rate hits a limit at settlement, the interval is automatically cut to one hour.

Why do some coins on Gate pay funding more often than every 8 hours?

The settlement interval on Gate depends on the contract and can change: for many coins it is 4 hours, and when the rate hits its limit it drops to one hour and returns to 4 hours after 16 consecutive settlements with an absolute rate below 0.025%. The rate per settlement is scaled to the interval, so rates of different coins are compared in one measure — per 8 hours or per day: the table has those switches.

How do I get an alert when the Gate funding rate rises?

In the QuickRadar builder pick the “Funding rate” condition, the Gate exchange, a coin and a threshold — the message arrives in Telegram as soon as the rate crosses it.
